STANFORD UNIVERSITY SCHOOL OF MEDICINE
Dr. Michelle Monje of the Stanford University School of Medicine recently completed an IFF-funded study focused on the difficulty of treating brain tumors and the source of their growth. Her findings were published in Nature, a leading publication in the industry. Based on the study’s findings, Monje stated that: Tumor cells are integrating into neural circuits in the brain… then using these connections to affect the behavior of neurons. The cancer cells themselves are promoting the neuronal activity that then feeds back to drive the growth of the cancer.
